Gifts for the Makers in Your Life

Updated: Jan 13

We all have those people, the ones that hand make all their gifts and when it's time for you to come up with a gift for them... you draw a blank.

Well have no fear, I have some fun ideas for you that will excite your fiber make friends and make you the best gift giver of the year.

Hand Dyed Yarn

For your fiber makers... nothing says I thought of you, like YARN! Hand dyed yarn is an even better gift! Below are some amazing yarns your fiber makers are going to LOVE! They come from Dye Monkey Yarns and Fairy Tale Yarn Co and some come from an amazing Yarn Shop, Unwound Artisan Yarn Shop.

You can't go wrong with any of these yarns! When you go to Dye Monkey Yarns or Fairy Tale Yarn Co, make sure to read the descriptions! I have honestly bough their yarns, not just on color but also on the descriptions. Don't believe me, Read the description for Cherry Cola Twist or Winnie The Pooh.

Unwound Artisan Yarn Shop actually offers the above yarns and so many more!

  • Unwound's Own Barron Island Bulky: Hand-dyed in downtown La Crosse, WI; Unwound's Own yarns come in fingering, DK, and bulky weights so you can find the perfect yarn for your special projects and gifts.

  • Blackberry Blossom Farm Handmade Luxury Yarns:These special, one-of-a-kind skeins from Harmony, MN are hand-dyed and spun by Audra, a 14 year-old artist working with fibers from her homegrown Shetland sheep and Pygora goats.

  • Knotzilla Hand-dyed Yarns: With names like "Sugar Rush" and "Troll Puff," not to mention the wide array of bases, from sparkle and slub to superwash and 100% Peruvian highland wool, Knotzilla's yarns will make you smile! Alyssa hand-dyes her skeins in La Crescent, MN, sometimes with some help from her son, David!

Spinning Fiber

Some makers go all out and want to spin their yarn first. I must confess, this is one I'm very interested in trying myself... I just haven't yet. These Rovings are courtesy of Unwound Artisan Yarn Shop.

Wooly Addict Fibers Roving is out of Holmen, WI. Indie-dyer Kristine conjures up beautiful color combinations for her lovingly, crafted braids of spinning fiber. They come in three different bases:

  1. superwash wool

  2. BFL

  3. Corriedale

If you happen to know they are interested in spinning, but haven't actually flipped the switch on this fun talent, make sure you buy them a spinner too! If you call the ladies at Unwound they can help you figure out the perfect one before you order.

Why not grab some awesome tags or patches for your maker friend? Even if they don't have a brand you can still have some custom tags made! Maybe they just say "Made with Love" in a heart.
